If you are a returning blog reader of mine, you know I love all things hair. So naturally, I also love the blogger Amber Fillerup Clark. She is known for her braids, hair tutorials, long, blonde hair. She has BFB hair extensions (which I have also purchased) and now Dae Hair. I thought that it was time for me to give a Dae Hair Product Review of the line myself.
I initially wanted to try the brand Dae because I was tired of just buying whatever from the drugstore, bringing it home, and hating it. Whether it was because it smelt awful, made my hair drier, or didn’t do anything.
I do research on hair products and ingredients to find a product that works for me and my hair, but it can get overwhelming. So I decided to just try the whole Dae line because it is a pretty natural and clean brand without a bunch of fillers.
If you also know me when it comes to skincare, clean doesn’t mean ANYTHING but with Dae they don’t have sulfates, parabens, phthalates, or synthetic fragrances. And if you color your hair, you are told to stay away from sulfates. This is why my Dae Hair product review started.
Update 12/27/2021: I repurchased the shampoo and hair oil during the Sephora sale but I still have 1/4 of the shampoo left but am almost out of the prickly pear hair oil. And I’m still loving it!
My usual haircare routine
I usually only wash my hair 1-2x a week. I try to do 2x a week because I am trying to avoid dry shampoo just to avoid buildup on my scalp to let it breathe.
Prior to Dae I was using the Oalpex shampoo (#4), conditioner (#5), and bonding cream(#6). It was fine, but honestly, I didn’t like the conditioner at ALL. I felt like it didn’t condition my hair. BUT it could have been how I was using the condition (which I will talk about soon).
I will sometimes blow dry my hair once it’s about 90% dry because I shower at night. I heat style my hair probably once a week if at all because working from home ya know.
Dae Hair Product Review Rundown
The Dae products I got were:
Dae Daily Shampoo – $24
Dae Daily Conditioner – $24
Dae Prickly Pear Hair Oil – $36
Dae Cactus Flower Leave-In Conditioner – $26
I didn’t get the deep treatment conditioner because I wanted to force myself to wash my hair 2x a week. If I were to only wash 1x a week, I would opt for the deep conditioning treatment ($28), but I haven’t tried it personally but I bet its just as good if not better than the daily conditioner.
Price & Where to purchase Dae products
I like to use the shampoo and conditioner from the same brand and line to get the most benefits because most of the time the ingredients are designed to work better together. They are designed that way, same with skincare.
I was a little hesitant to purchase because I usually purchase my hair stuff from the drug store (besides the Oalplex).
BUT… I will say this.
Purchase from Sephora. I got all this during the Beauty Insider Sale and I also use Rakuten which usually always gives me 2% cashback on Sephora purchases. You can also purchase from the Dae.com site but I get better deals at Sephora.
Now, the Dae Hair Product Review!
Long story short, I REALLY like these products! They are simple but effective in their specific jobs.
Everything smells really nice, if you have a sensitive nose, it might be a little much (especially now that I’m pregnant), but they don’t smell artificial.
The packaging is amazing even from Sephora. The shampoo and conditioner come with a regular squeeze top AND comes with pumps! Which is a winning aspect in my book.
I have used these products for 1.5 months 2x a week and have only used about an inch of product. So you will get your money’s worth with this product. The shampoo and conditioner I got are in the 10 oz.
Shampoo
The Shampoo literally makes your hair squeaky clean, like, you can feel it. But doesn’t strip the natural oils.
I use 1.5-2 pumps, put it all over my scalp. Remember: shampoo is cleaning your scalp like a cleanser for your face. NOT for the hair strands. Rinsing it out will run down your hair to get that product out.
Don’t add more product, but run some water over your hair to lather it up. This is when it will suds up to get that extra clean.
Conditioner
The conditioner adds moisture without being too much. This is meant to use for every day so it’s not as intense as a treatment. If you need even more moisture, I would get the deep conditioning treatment.
I use 2 full pumps and apply mid shaft to ends.
The trick: How I use the conditioner is by kind of scrunching it into my hair instead of trying to brush through my hair with a wide-tooth comb in the shower. You might already know this but this was a game-changer for me.
Once I squeeze it into ends I plop it on the top of my head to let a little bit of conditioner coat the top hair.
Leave-In Conditioner
This really helps with detangling. I never thought I needed a detangler until I tried this one. Maybe I was just getting bad ones but this is a detangler, conditioner, and heat protectant.
My only complaint is that it is in a spray bottle and I don’t like how it comes out. Since it’s a cream it doesn’t spray super far and wide, but my work around is I just spray it in my hands and apply.
I will put the leave-in conditioner in my hair once it’s no longer dripping wet. I put some in my hands, apply to my mid-shaft to ends and gently comb through with a wide-tooth comb.
Even though it has a heat protectant up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, if I curl my hair the next day I will still add an additional heat protectant.
Dae Hair Oil
I like this hair oil because I was having a hard time finding one that didn’t have protein added in. Read more about protein overload in your hair here. It’s lightweight and doesn’t weigh your hair down.
I don’t know if it’s just my bottle but it’s almost like the pump pushes up and loosens up and therefore leaks. My hair products are just thrown in a drawer but for this product I just keep it on my countertop.
After I blow dry my hair, I will add 2-3 pumps into my hand and apply mainly on my ends and once that is absorbed I add the excess up to my roots. Don’t use too much at first because it could look heavy, but if you use it at night, use as much as you want, just be careful to no sleep on your hair with that oil on your face.
Tip: If you don’t wash your hair that often, put hair oil in your ends every night to keep them hydrated. You can also use like 10 pumps for a super hydration night treatment and wash in the morning.
Results
I have relatively healthy hair for bleaching the s*&t out of it for years, but when I am consistent with the Dae products, my hair feels like it’s in balance. Not too much hydration, but it’s not overly dry.
Even though the price is a little higher than I’m used to, if this shampoo and conditioner can last me 4-6 months, I will keep repurchasing.
All in all, I am happy with the products and think they are good products for basic hair care needs.
Have you tried Dae hair?
