I won a new TV at work for the holiday season and it was much larger than our current TV. Our entertainment center didn’t work with the new TV, so we decided to DIY an Entertainment Center and it ended up being under $50.
**It’s under $50 for the wood and crates to make the stand. My dad has a woodshop that had all other items we needed so the $50 don’t include those items, but I will still list them. We also got a discount on our piece of wood because it wasn’t perfect, so ask for a discount if you can!
I have seen people make furniture out of wooden crates, now, Farmhouse is not how I would classify my home style, but it was going to be a cheap option for a new entertainment center.
We went to Home Depot to get our supplies, but if I can find an online version, I’ll include it here.
Here are the supplies you will need:
- 3 crates (or however many you want)
- Douglas Fir wood piece (we got a 2-inch thick piece, 8 feet X 12 inches)
- Paintbrush
- Primer and paint
- 6 1.5 inch screws and screwdriver (a power drill is best)
We cut the 8-foot wood to 5 feet to fit our TV. I would cut it a little bit less than the length of your TV if it’s really large like ours.
We primed and painted the crates and the top piece. We ended up doing 3 coats of white paint to really cover the dark wood from the crates.
We decided to drill through a piece of wood through the handles of the crates so we can use the crates another time and not have holes in them (If that makes sense). Or you can just drill through the crate into the piece of wood.
We lined up the crates to the back of the wood piece and left 2 inches from the end and then put the crate there on both ends. Then we just lined up the middle for the middle crate.
I’m actually pretty happy with how it turned out! We took out the screws to transported it to our place and then just used a hand screwdriver to put it together. I had the leftover cubes from our other center that worked perfect and holds our movies and other stuff.
I hope this was helpful if you are looking for a cheap, but cute entertainment center idea!
XO, Annie
