The barrel hair waver has been making a comeback for the last few years. I got mine back in high school, stored it away for a few years, and found it again a few years back. They create nice beach waves in your hair without having to sleep in braids or go to the beach. You can style your hair much faster with a styler for different hair types because it covers more of your hair at once and you only have to hold it on your hair for 3-5 seconds for each section. You might be wondering what the best deep wavers are out there, don’t worry, I’ll give them to you.
What Is The Best Deep Waver?
The best deep waver for beachy waves will depend on your price point and the desired look you are going for. There are the typical triple barrel curling iron wavers that vary in size and can look either more crimped or like a beach wave. This depends on the size of the barrels. And there are the DEEP wavers (I have one like this) that make bigger, pronounced waves and are more voluminous.
The Difference in a Waver vs a Crimper
A crimper or the crimped look is smaller ‘waves’. When I think of a crimper, I think of super tiny literally crimps in the hair. Think like 80’s big hair.
There are also crimped waves that are bigger but don’t look like the mermaid waves, beachy look. These are usually made with three barrel wavers that are 3/4 inches and smaller.
A waver is a triple barrel that is over 1 inch in size. As well as how deep the waves are made. Most of the ones listed are triple barrels and the sizes are listed.
It all depends on the look you are going for and what you like the best on yourself.
Conair Triple Barrel Waver
I love my Conair Ceramic Curling Iron, so when I saw that they had a waver with the same material, I got excited!
There are 30 different heat settings so you can find the right heat for your hair to get it to style but also healthy-er.
It comes in a 3/4 inch size which will be smaller waves. If that is what you are looking for, this one will be great! And it’s super affordable at $24 on Amazon.
Bestope 5 in 1 Set
This one is cool because it is interchangeable and has 5 different attachments including a triple barrel waver!
It only has 2 temperature controls (300°F and 410°F). This might be a deal-breaker if you have thin or fine hair because if you go up to 410°F, you will be really damaging your hair. For thicker or more coarse hair, you should be okay.
For getting 5 tools in one for only $45, this is a great option for a lower price point!
REMEMBER TO ALWAYS USE A HEAT PROTECTANT!
Chi Multi-Wave Styler
This waver is totally versatile with 5 preset heat settings and you can adjust the barrel to get the wave look you want. It is ceramic coated to heat up fast, help with even heat distribution, and control frizz.
It turns off automatically after an hour, has a 6.5 ft cord, and goes up to 410°F
This is a higher price point of $68 on Amazon but even higher if you get it from other places.
Amika High Tide Waver
Amika has been making a name for themselves the last few years in the hair space. They have been around a while but I have only been hearing about them recently.
The heat settings go from 120°F -390°F but is only about 3/4 inches. This is a great option for finer, thinner hair to help avoid heat damage.
This is a pricey waver coming in at $120 at Sephora and if I’m being honest, you can find the same for cheaper. I still wanted to include it in the round-up because it is a good option.
Alure Three Barrel Crimper
This waver has almost 20,000 4.5 star reviews on Amazon, is only $25, and is 1-in in size. It is made with ceramic and coated with tourmaline to help minimize the frizz that can come with wavy hair and locks in shine.
You can adjust the temperature via a LED screen with adjustable heat settings going up to 410°F. The cord is 7ft long which I didn’t think much about the cord length but this is a nice feature to have!
Mermade Hair Waver PRO
This waver is the largest one coming in 1.25 inches for faster hairstyling and longer waves. It auto shuts off in an hour, is made with ceramic barrels, has multiple heat settings, and has an 8 ft cord (ooooo).
The Mermade waver is designed to leave a crease-free look and is less crimpy than smaller wavers. I would say this is definitely more of a waver than a crimper.
This is listed at $74 on Amazon.
Bed Head Deep Waver
This deep waver is my favorite! I love this look and I have had mine for over 10 years. Granted, for some of those years, I didn’t use it because it wasn’t in style but still.
Mine isn’t the Bed Head brand but it is EXACTLY the same.
If you want the deep, voluminous waves that I am always rocking, this is the waver you want. This creates long-lasting waves that last days!
It goes up to 400°F, but has multiple heat setting and has tourmaline ceramic plates to maximize shiny waves and minimize frizzy hair.
The best part, it’s only $20! And if you don’t trust me, it has over 45,000 4.5 star ratings.
How To Use a Hair Waver
A barrel hair waver (besides a straightener) is the easiest hair tool you will use.
I’ll link two of my videos below. One doing it on short hair and another on long hair and I have thick hair.
Steps:
- Use a heat protectant that protects hair
- Get a section of hair about 2 inches wide but not super thick
- Clamp and hold for 3-5 sections
- Repeat down the length of your hair (I leave out the ends about 1.5 inches)
- Continue around your whole head
- Finish with texture spray or hair spray
You continue the wave right after the other one. Once you have done it once, you will be able to feel where to clamp down. And if you don’t get it perfect, even better! It will look more natural and beachy!
The Best Hair Waver, In My Opinion
I personally think the Bed Head one is the best because that is my favorite look. I love the deep, defined volume you get from it.
For shorter hair, you might like the Conair one because it’s smaller. If you want a tool with lots of styling options, try the Bestope 5 in 1.
And for tips on how to curl your hair, check out this post.
All the ones I listed are great options so you won’t go wrong with any choice.
What is your favorite deep waver?
