My Current Hair Care Routine – Healthy Scalp and Hair

There are so many products out there and so much advice on what you should do to get a healthy scalp to get healthy hair. While not all advice will apply to you and your hair type (it is a trial and error process) here are the products I am using, why I’m using them, and how I use them to help curate your ideal hair care routine.

Healthy hair products

In shower products

Most of the time when I wash my hair, I am using the Dae regular Shampoo and Conditioner. I wash my hair 1-2 times a week depending on my activity level and just how gross my hair feels.

We have been told that we should avoid washing our hair for as long as possible to get healthy hair, but that’s a myth. Some people NEED to wash their hair more than other and adding dry shampoo to prolong your hair between showers just isn’t practical.

Find a basic shampoo and conditioner that you can use every time that is good for your hair type and hair goals. IE Thin hair, damaged hair, curly hair, long hair, oily hair, dry hair, etc.

Some additional products that I use:

Purple Shampoo – I only really use this once a month and as a second shampoo after my regular shampoo.

Scalp Scrub – I use this if I went a long time between washes and my scalp feels itchy, dry, and irritated.

Detox Shampoo – I use this if I used a lot of products like dry shampoo or styling products or if my hair feels weighed down. Only about 2 times a month.

Deep Conditioner – I will use this usually once a week to keep my hair soft and shiny. I use a moisture mask because where I live is really dry and it affects my hair.

Post Shower Products:

Hair Towel – Regular towels are too rough on our fragile wet hair and a microfiber hair towel helps speed up the drying process while keeping it protected.

Leave In Conditioner – I use this EVERY TIME I get out of the shower. I wait until my hair is about 50% dry, spray, and gently comb out my hair with a wide tooth comb. I don’t use a brush, wet brush, or whatever ONLY a wide tooth comb.

Hair Oil – Once again, I use this every time I wash my hair. Hair needs oil to keep it moisturized and healthy looking. Oil helps prevent breakage.

Styling Products and Tools

I have just recently been blow drying my hair instead of air drying. Mainly because I wash my hair at night and you DO NOT want to sleep on wet hair.

Blow Dryer – Sometimes, I just need a quick rough dry to get my hair dry so I will opt for my dryer.

Blow Dry Brush – If I want to have a more sleek, polished dry, I’ll use my blow dry brush. I am still learning it but it does create a frizz-free blow-dry look.

Every Night Products

On those nights that I don’t wash my hair, I still use products to keep it healthy.

Scalp Serum – This helps promote a healthy scalp to remove product build-up, stimulate hair growth, and soothe the scalp.

I also use a hair oil every night on my ends as well.

Night hair care products

I always wear my hair up in a clip or in a loose bun with a satin scrunchie and always on a satin or silk pillowcase. If you don’t get the hype around a silk/satin pillowcase, check out this blog post about why you need one!

Those are the products in my hair care routine I use to get a healthy scalp for healthy hair. I didn’t get too in-depth of how I use these products so if you want to know more about that, let me know!
