If you are like me, you like, fashionable, good quality clothing for a great price. Today, I am sharing my top 7 go-to affordable clothing stores. I will also list some of my favorite staples from each store to help you with your basic shopping needs.
**Updated Jan 2021
*Note that some of the deals I mention require to sign up for a credit card from the store, but you can still get great deals without the store credit card.
Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic
These are my top 3 affordable clothing stores because there you can get quality AND quantity. They ALWAYS have sales and if you sign up for their credit card, you get early access to Friends and Family sales, dollars off once you purchase a certain amount of $$, their clothes are overall pretty good quality. You can use the discounts and the credit card at all stores. At Banana Republic and Gap, you can always get an additional 10% off (and free shipping online) every time you use your store credit card.
Old Navy: you can get the best price on clothes, but I don’t always like the texture of the clothing, mainly the tops and dresses. I have a lot of their tops that I love and one pair of jeans that fit perfectly! They always have some sort of deal with extra % off.
Gap: I feel like sometimes it is a hit or miss, I either love everything or hate it all. I usually get my bottom and dresses here. Their basics are affordable and of great quality. Out of the three stores, this is where you will find the BEST basics. Out of the 3 stores, Gap doesn’t always have as good or frequent deals as the others BUT still, be on the lookout.
Banana Republic: if you have a more classy and dressed-up style, this is the one for you. This store is my personal favorite. I have SO many items from tops to dresses to jeans and jewelry. Banana Republic Factory is a great option as well they usually have different stuff than the regular store. You can find at all times at least 20% off if not more.
JCrew
I never used to shop here because I thought it was for adults who were rich, but it’s kinda like Banana Republic where if you pay full price for something, you don’t know the tricks. If you know the tricks, it will quickly because one of your favorite affordable clothing stores too. The JCrew Factory is also a great option because they have more affordable pieces with sales on top of that. The outlet online isn’t as good as in-store.
They have a credit card as well that you can earn rewards and points to get dollars off when you spend a certain amount. They usually have 40% off full-priced items so keep an eye on those dealz!
I, personally, have mainly sweaters and coats from there that I have had for years that are classic pieces and have held up really well.
And their quality….nothing beats it for the price! If you want a sweater that will last FOREVER, Jcrew is your place. The styles they carry are both classic basics but also unique and on-trend pieces.
Walmart
Not gonna lie, I used to be embarrassed if anyone saw me in the clothing department of Walmart growing up. I think it was because when I was younger I cared what people thought and their clothes weren’t really “fashionable”. But the last year or so, they have come out with some cute stuff.
Their cardigans are around $20 and so warm and NOT itchy, which is a necessity for me. I have a pair of their distressed bermuda shorts that are actually cute even though bermuda shorts, in my opinion, are terrible! I hate them so much!
They also have really cute jewelry and shoes that are trendy and usually $20 and under. Score!
Target
It’s Target! You can get everything from there and their clothes are always in style and affordable. Not gonna lie, there are sometimes when I think their clothing items are a little overpriced, but overall, I’m a fan. They have really stepped up their clothing game in the last year. Target will always be one of my go to affordable clothing stores for versatility.
If you sign up for their Target RedCard, you will save 5% every time you use it. And if you go to Target as often as me, any little bit helps. Also download the Target app and look for their Circle deals where you can find even more $$ off on different categories (20% off Women’s Clothing, 15% off Outerwear for the Family, etc).
The brand, Wild Fable, is the most affordable brand that is more ‘fashionable’ and on-trend with the younger crowd ie crop tops, neons, and really short skirts. If that’s your style, lucky you because your items are way more affordable than the rest of the Target lines. Wild Fable is more fast fashion because it is more trendy and tends to go out of style pretty fast. I haven’t purchased many things from this line so I can’t attest to how long they hold up, but for the price, only lasting a few months isn’t bad.
Universal Thread and A New Day is the next step up because they are a little bit higher price point, but yet still super affordable. You could easily get a top and bottom outfit for under $75 maybe even $50 on sale! They have less trendy pieces but more classic ‘workwear’. These are my personal favorite brands that Target because of the versatility of the pieces and the quality is great. The only real negative thing I have to say about these lines is the jeans aren’t very good. They stretch out and don’t hold their shape very long.
I love that they have a ‘plus-size’ line Ava & Viv. Their items are super cute and have a large variety to choose from. I don’t have anything from that line so I can’t say much about the quality but it seems to be nice.
Who Wear What and Prologue are the final brands. They are the highest brands and the highest quality. These brands have in-style, fashionable pieces. The brands usually price around $30-$50 for pants and tops. Some of their stuff is like, “WTF, I would NEVER wear that”, but overall, it’s cute.
Also, LOVE their shoes!!
H&M
You can never go wrong with their accessories. That’s one thing I always get at H&M and can never go wrong.
Their sweaters are usually pretty good and if you don’t mind spending $50 on a dress it’s a good place to get nice dresses. I have heard their jeans are pretty good too. I’ve tried a few on and they are pretty nice and high waisted, but I haven’t purchased any because I have too many already in my closet.
If you want a top, I recommend feeling them before you buy them. Their more affordable shirts (under $20) can sometimes feel stiff and scratchy. So, if you are picky about that kind of stuff, you might want to go in-store before you buy it. If you don’t mind doing returns than order away!
Save More When Shopping Online
You can find WAY better deals online and you don’t even have to leave your house (if you are into that). Especially when looking for sales/clearance items at Banana Republic and Jcrew, it’s better to do it online because it can be messy and overwhelming. However, sometimes they do have different things in stores.
For Old Navy, I find online has better deals site wide instead of in-stores. So sometimes, I go into the store, try things on, and then buy them online.
When shopping online, there are 2 main Chrome Extensions/websites I used to get more cash back and discounts.
Rakuten
**If you are signing up for Rakuten, use the link above to get $30 once you sign up and make your first online purchase!
Rakuten just gives you cash back depending on the site you are shopping on. Just download the Chrome Extension, login, and once you visit a website to shop, a pop-up with show you how much cash back you can get back.
Click “Activate” and just continue your shopping online and the % of the money from your purchase will appear in your Rakuten account. You will get paid via PayPal once every 3 months as long as you get $5 cash back before the time period, otherwise, you will get in the next payback time.
Honey
Honey is free as well and has a Chrome Extension. Once you have the Chrome Extension, when you are in the checkout section on the site, a pop up will show you that there are discounts. It basically finds all the discount codes on the entire internet so you don’t have to. Not only do you save money, but you can redeem for a $10 gift card once you collect 1,000 Gold “coins”.
What are your favorite affordable clothing stores? Do you shop at any of these stores that I listed? Let me know your thoughts!
